Invincible Teaser Poster

Probably the most anticipated movie for me! Can't wait to watch it. =)

The first official poster is out for action-noir blockbuster Invincible, which stars Joo Jin-mo, Song Seung-heon, Kim Kang-woo, and Jo Han-seon. The tagline reads, “Brothers who meet as enemies, friends who team up through loyalty.” That refers to the fact that Joo and Song are partners involved in illegal arms trade, while Kim plays a cop who’s also Joo’s younger brother.

What do you think — are they less cheesy than the character stills? (I’d say yes on the whole, but Song Seung-heon’s lollipop smirk still makes me laugh. Also — do mine eyes deceive me, or has somebody Photoshopped the lollipop stick badly near his mouth?)

This A Better Tomorrow remake touts a 10 billion won production budget and includes involvement from four countries (Korea, Japan, Thailand, and China). It will release in theaters in September, in time for the busy Chuseok holiday.

Invincible Teaser Pictures Released

"Invincible" is a remake of a Hong Kong classic movie, "A Better Tomorrow". I'm really excited to watch the movie and see if they will keep the original story or make some changes. Hong Kong actor Ti Lung's role will be taken on by Joo Jin Mo, Chow Yun Fat by Song Seung Hun, and Leslie Cheung by Kim Kang Woo.

Invincible [Mujeokja, or 무적자] is the Korean remake of the 1986 Hong Kong mobster noir film A Better Tomorrow, and just wrapped filming on July 1 at Gamcheon Port in Busan. The shoot lasted just over five months, having begun on January 25 and including location filming abroad in Thailand.

The film stars Song Seung-heon in the role originated by Chow Yun-fat, Joo Jin-mo (pictured above), Jo Han-seon, and Kim Kang-woo. It is planning to release over the Chuseok holiday in September, which is one of the largest holidays of the year (and therefore a big movie-going weekend).

In the remake, Song Seung-heon and Joo Jin-mo are gangsters involved in the black market arms trade, while Kim Kang-woo is the detective pursuing them who happens to be Joo’s younger brother. Jo Han-seon plays a guy who wants to get rid of the others and take over.

Eldest-on-set Joo Jin-mo said after wrapping on the film, “During the filming, I fell deeper into the emotions of the character every day. It should satisfy audiences with action, emotion, and drama.” Song Seung-heon added, “If you don’t watch Invincible during the Chuseok season, you’ll be left out of the loop!”

The title Invincible can have a few readings; in addition to being a person who is unbeatable, another meaning is “one without a country.” The project boasts a hefty production budget of 10 billion won and comes from director Song Hae-sung of Failan and Maundy Thursday.

[Movie] Antique Bakery

Cast:

Joo Ji Hoon - as Kim Jin Hyeok, the owner of the bakery. He personally hate sweets but chose to open a bakery for the hope of one day finding the man that abducted him when he was young.

The movie was released at the peak of Ji Hoon's career which made it more successful. Everyone loved him and it showed in how the movie fared in the box office.

Kim Jae Wook - as Min Seon Woo, the gay guy who liked Jin Hyeok since high school. He's a skilled chef that one man can resist. The only man immune to his charms is Jin Hyeok so he asked him to help him with his bakery.

I was surprised as how Kim Jae Wook actually handled a gay role. He's a free spirited actor that doesn't care about stereo types. He fits the role perfectly.

Yoo Ah In - as Yang Ki Beom, a previous pro boxer that chose to become a chef and learn from the best, Seon Woo.

Choi Ji Ho - as Nam Soo Young, a childhood friend of Jin Hyeok that felt indebted to his family so he chose to stay by Jin Hyeok's side to protect him.

Summary:

Jin Hyeok was abducted as a child but was able to escape. He was fed cakes everyday during the time he was captured. This made him hate sweets until he's old. He never told anybody about the experience and tried to forget it but it haunts him until today. He decided to open a bakery with the subconscious hope of luring the man who abducted him and catching him finally.

To open a bakery, he needs a skilled chef to make the cakes for him. Seon Woo is a gay high school classmate that confessed his love for him. Jin Hyeok is the only man immune to Seon Woo's charms that he thought it would be perfect to work with him.

When this movie was released back in 2008, there were so much hype going on and it even became a big hit with so many theater goers watching the movie. I didn't think much about it thinking it's just a gay movie, and with Korea's conservative culture, I'm actually surprised that this movie earned well.

After watching it, I found out that it's not just a simple gay movie at all. It stores a story behind each character and how they came to be where they are in the story. I don't get to watch a lot of Korean movies lately and it's not really the best movie I've seen but something nice to watch if you're tired of the common romantic love story out there.
